Ram Krishna Temple - Belur Math:

Belur Math is also called Ramkrishna Math which was founded by Swamy Vivekananda. Ramkrishna temple was inaugurated on 14 Dec 1938.   Temple architect is very beautiful with fuses of Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic, and Christian. 

Inside Belur Math campus so many places are there to visit like Ramkrishna Temple, Sharda Devi temple, Swami Vivekananda temple, Swami Brahmananda temple, Sri Ramkrishna Museum, etc. 

It is situated at the bank of the Hugli river which gives a grand view of the Belur Math. A very big park in front of the Ramkrishna temple gives another grand look. It's a must-visit place. 

Generally, we have seen Sri Ramkrishna & mother Sarda Devi (his wife) together in every photo but in Sri Ramkrishna temple, a statue of mother Sarda is missing which is quite surprising and I was feeling like something missing. There is a separate temple for maa Sarda. 

Visiting Timing:  08:30 AM to 11:30 AM & 04:00 PM to 06:00 PM everyday. 

Best time to visit: All time. During the summer it's very hot.

Parking Places: A parking place is available in Belur Math but I feel it is not sufficient due to the large number of tourists. I suggest using Taxis or Autos to visit Belur Math or other local destination.

 

How to reach  Belur Math: 

Indian Rail: The nearest main railway station is Howrah Junction which is 7 Km from Belur math. This station is the biggest in eastern reason, lots of trains from different cities in India runs. A local station called Belur Math is a dedicated railway station where multiple trains run from Howrah. Regular autos and taxis are available at the railway station to go to Belur math.

 

Buses: The nearest bus station is in Howrah which is 7 km from Belur math. Regular buses are available from different nearby cities.  

  

Airport: The nearest airport is Subhash Chandra Bose International airport in Kolkatta which is 15 km from Belur Math. The airport is well connected with different cities in India and abroad. 

 

Private Taxis: Availability of private taxis, Autos are very good at Howrah & Kolkatta. Using a taxi for a local trip is the best and cheap option.

Lots of budget hotels and lodges are available around Belur math as it's a very famous tourist destination. You can choose hotels near Howrah station as well as it is not very far from there. 

Food & Restaurant near Belur Math:

Belur math is one of the most important tourist destinations in Kolkatta and lots of restaurants are available around it. North Indian, South Indian, and continental foods are available at a very reasonable price.
