The Mysore Palace: 

Mysore Palace is a historic place in Mysore (Karnataka) which is a very famous tourist destination in Mysore. The royal families from the Wadiyar dynasty still leave there. 

This Palace is in the center of the city with four huge gates named

  • East: Jaya Maarthaanda (main enterance)
  • North: Jayarama
  • South: Balarama
  • West: Varaha -  Public Entry is from Varaha Gate.
The old palace was built in the 14th century and was burnt to ashes during the Dashara festival as it was made with wood. The current existing palace is more than 100 years old. 

This is one of the most famous historical places & tourist destinations after the Taj Mahal. 

There is a huge garden just in front of the main place which gives grand look to the Palace. It is must visit place for travel enthusiasm. 



Mysore Palace Visiting Timing:  
For palace visit - 10:00 AM to 05:30 PM (All Day)
For Illumination - 07:00 PM to 08: PM (All Day except Sunday & Public holiday)

Best time to visit: All time. Whether is good throughout the year.

Entry Fees:  Below is the ticket charges for Indian and foreigners. 

  • Up to 9 years - FREE
  • 10 to 18 Years - Rs. 30/ person
  • Above 18 Years - Rs. 90/person

Special occasion:
Navratri (Durga puja, Dashara) is a very special occasion and lots of tourists visit there every year to participate. Huge crowd and no parking place available during that period. 

Dashara is very famous in Mysore.

Parking Places: Huge parking place is available near the Palace. You have to pay for it. I suggest using Taxis or Autos to visit the temple or other local destination.
 

How to reach  Mysore Palace/ Mysore: 

Indian Rail: The nearest railway station is Mysuru Junction in Mysore. It is well connected with Bangalore and other cities. 

Buses: The nearest bus station is the Mysore bus stand which is very close to the palace. It is well connected with major cities.  
  
Airport: The nearest airport is Mandakali Airport in Mysore. It is around 10 km from Mysore city. Flights from various cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Chennai, Goa Belgaum, etc run on a regular basis. One can use the Bangalore airport which is around 157 km from Mysore. 
 
Private Taxis: Availability of private taxis, Autos are very good in Mysore and you can hire them for local travel needs.

Mysore Palace is one of the most important tourist destinations in Mysore and lots of restaurants are available around it. North Indian, South Indian, and continental foods are available at a very reasonable price. South Indian food is quite tasty there. You can try Mysore Pak (Sweet) and Mysore Bonda which is famous.

  1. Visit with ample time, lot more to look. This palace has manually operated lift. World famous paintings can be seen in this palace and few in Jaganmohana palace
