Victoria Memorial:

Victoria Memorial is one of the famous tourist destinations in Kolkata. Its huge building made of white marble situated in the center of the city called Maidan near Jawaharlal Nehru road.  Its architecture and design are very beautiful. A big garden which is around 64 acres gives a very nice appearance to the building.

The Victoria Memorial which was built from 1906 to 1921 is dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria, then impress of India.

  • Culcutta gallery
  • The Garden
Inside the building, photography and videography are not allowed. It's a must-visit place in Kolkata.

  • For Victoria Memorial
    • Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 AM to 08:00 PM
    • Monday & National Holiday: CLOSED
    • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM
  • For Victoria Garden
    • All Day: 05:30 AM to 06:00 PM


Best time to visit: All time. During the summer it's very hot.

Entry Fees:  
  • Below is the detail about the entry fee in Victoria Musium 
    • A student with school uniform and valid ID card - Free entry
    • For Indian National: Rs. 30/Person. 
    • Foreigners from SARC countries (Afganistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan & Srilanka): Rs. 100/Person (Passport need to be shown)
    • Foreigners from other countries: Rs. 500/Person
  • Below is the detail about the entry fee in Victoria Garde
    • Daily ticket: Rs. 20/Person
    • Yearly: 2000/Person for the person aged below 60 years.
    • Yearly: 1000/Person for the person aged above 60 years.

Parking Places: Parking place is available near Victoria Memorial but I feel it is not sufficient due to large number of tourist. I suggest using Taxis or Autos to visit Victoria Memorial or other local destination.
 

How to reach  Victoria Memorial: 

Indian Rail: Nearest main railway station is Howrah Junction which is 5 Km from Victoria Memorial. This station is biggest in eastern reason, lots of trains from different cities in India runs. Regular autos and taxis are available at the railway station to go to Victoria Memorial.
 
Buses: The nearest bus station is in Babughat which is 3.5 km from Victoria Memorial. Regular buses are available from different nearby cities.  
  
Airport: Nearest airport is Subhash Chandra Bose International airport in Kolkatta which is 16 km from Victoria Memorial. The airport is well connected with different cities in India and abroad. 
 
Private Taxis: Availability of private taxi, Autos are very good at Howrah & Kolkatta. Using a taxi for a local trip is the best and cheap option.

Victoria Memorial is one of the most important tourist destination in Kolkatta and lots of restaurants are available around it. North Indian, South Indian and continental foods are available at very reasonable price.
