श्री शांतादुर्गा - Shree Shantadurga Mandir:

Shree Shantadurga Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to godess Durga. The temple is situated at the foothill of Kavalem, a small village in Goa (India).

There is a talk of a battle between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu in our Puran and other spiritual books. As the battle was not ending, lord Brahma requested maa Parvati (Lord Shiva's wife) to intervene and stop the fight. She did the same and hold lord Vishnu with the right hand and Lord Shiva with the Left hand. This avatar of maa Parvati is known as Shantadurga.

The original temple located at Quelossim (Keloshi) was destroyed by the Portuguese in 1566 and the goddess was shifted to the present site (Kavalem).

The temple's construction started during the Maratha Empire Chattrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj in 1730 and was completed in 1738. Later it was renovated in 1966.

This is one of the very famous temples in Goa. Please visit the place and feel the spirituality.
